Audience development is at the heart of every NDA concert programme and presentation:
The NDA presents a whole range of educational activities aimed at furthering audience development including the popular pre-concert talks at the NDA's Orchestral Series at home in The Hague. See Concerts 2010-2011
These activities, alongside the regular NDA workshops, offer audiences the opportunity to enrich their knowledge and enjoyment of music by providing context as well as fresh, interesting and engaging perspectives.
During every performance, the NDA's conductor Simon Murphy personally introduces the programme to the audience, giving in-depth information about the works and their relationship, the theme of the programme, the musical languages and styles, the orchestra's approach to the pieces and the special instruments involved. After the performances, NDA musicians make it a priority to mingle and talk with audience members answering any further questions they may have about the music or instruments.
The NDA makes its concerts super accessible for younger people, offering special, low cost concert tickets for youths and students for events in The Hague.
NDA Friends can also enjoy the NDA's "Open Kitchen" evenings where certain new areas of NDA research are presented, explored and discussed. See Friends
